Meghan Markle has been criticised by a royal commentator who claims she tends to remain out of the public eye when Prince Harry is facing intense media scrutiny.
US-based commentator Kinsey Schofield argued that Meghan has not shown Harry the same level of public support that he has shown her during difficult periods.
“She does disappear when times are tough,” Schofield claimed, pointing to the backlash Harry faced following the release of his memoir, Spare. She noted that the Duke of Sussex became the subject of jokes on American late-night television while Meghan largely stayed away from the spotlight.
Schofield also referred to Harry’s BBC interview following the court ruling in his legal challenge over security arrangements in the UK.
“Where was Meghan Markle?” she asked. “When times are tough, she is MIA.”
The commentator went on to suggest that Meghan may not accompany Harry on a future visit to the UK, although no official announcement has been made regarding her plans.
According to Schofield, Harry has repeatedly defended Meghan in public and spoken openly about the pressure she has faced. She cited his appearance in the couple’s interview with Oprah Winfrey, as well as his comments in the documentary series The Me You Can’t See.
“He’s very protective of her, but she does not give him the same shield,” Schofield concluded.
The claims reflect the commentator’s personal opinion and have not been confirmed by representatives for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
