Meghan Markle faces awkward cooking question on camera

Meghan Markle has faced criticism after appearing to struggle with a question about the meals she enjoys preparing for her family.

The moment reportedly occurred during filming for the Australian edition of MasterChef, where the Duchess of Sussex was asked to name her favourite dish to cook at home.

Meghan admitted that the question was difficult because her family has different tastes.

She explained that Prince Harry enjoys traditional British-style meals featuring meat, potatoes and creamy sauces, while she prefers lighter Californian flavours such as grilled fish, grilled meat, citrus and fresh herbs.

Her response was later discussed by royal commentators Dan Wootton and Brittany of the Royal News Network, who questioned why Meghan did not name a specific dish.

Wootton argued that the answer suggested Meghan was more comfortable preparing dips, sauces and simple accompaniments than complete meals.

“She doesn’t cook meals,” he claimed, adding that he believed this was “abundantly clear” from the interview.

Brittany made a similar argument, referring to another part of the programme in which fellow guest Poh Ling Yeow reportedly helped complete Meghan’s answer.

According to Brittany, Meghan struggled to explain what she would prepare using the ingredients she had selected and eventually suggested something similar to a pesto sauce.

She claimed this showed that Meghan does not regularly cook for her family, although she acknowledged that the duchess may occasionally prepare a simple pasta dish or another basic meal.

The commentator also referred to Meghan’s previous remarks about serving takeaway food on attractive plates, suggesting that presentation may play a larger role in her lifestyle content than cooking from scratch.

Brittany went on to mention a past social media post involving frozen waffles, using it to question Meghan’s credibility as the face of a cooking programme and lifestyle brand.

She concluded by linking the criticism to Meghan’s As Ever brand, although her claims about its commercial performance were not supported with sales figures.

The exchange has divided viewers. Some regarded Meghan’s answer as vague, while others noted that describing several family preferences is not necessarily evidence that she does not cook at home.
