Prince Harry has been accused of overplaying his hand and becoming a “liability” to the Royal Family.
Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams believes Harry’s earlier success in challenging the British press may have given him too much confidence. Once known as the fun-loving “party prince,” Harry was, according to Fitzwilliams, “buoyed up by previous victories over the press” before eventually overreaching himself.
The commentator argued that Harry’s position has deteriorated significantly since he and Meghan Markle stepped down as senior working royals. Their subsequent public criticism of the monarchy, including allegations that the institution was racist and uncaring, reportedly caused serious damage to their relationship with the Royal Family.
Fitzwilliams said those accusations have not been forgotten, particularly by Prince William, who remains estranged from his younger brother. He also suggested that King Charles and Queen Camilla continue to be affected by Harry’s public remarks, including his description of Camilla as “dangerous” in his memoir.
Tensions reportedly increased further as Harry considered whether to bring his family to London and stay at Buckingham Palace. According to Fitzwilliams, the uncertainty eventually tested King Charles’ patience.
Trust also remains a major issue. The Royal Family is said to deeply distrust Harry, and the confusion surrounding security and accommodation during his recent visit was presented as further evidence of the strained relationship.
For Harry, the message appears clear: despite the passage of time, the Royal Family has not forgotten what was said or the damage it believes was caused.
