Duke of Sussex shares message of resilience ahead of 2027 Invictus Games
Prince Harry delivered an emotional message about courage and resilience as he marked the one-year countdown to the 2027 Invictus Games.
Appearing with presenter Alison Hammond on ITV’s This Morning at Birmingham’s National Exhibition Centre, the Duke of Sussex reflected on the strength shown by wounded, injured and sick military veterans who take part in the international sporting event.
Harry said people could learn from competitors who have turned difficult experiences into a source of strength.
“I think that when you’re really up against it, how you decide to use that trauma, that experience or that loss, how you use that to really grow that resilience in yourself, I think that’s where people can connect to it,” he said.
He added that resilience was especially important during uncertain times.
“And now, more than ever, we need to grow the national resilience here in the UK, but also around the world,” Harry said.
During the event, the Duke also joined Hammond for a game of Laser Run. He joked that he had “lost quite a lot of hair” since the first Invictus Games were held in London in 2014.
Harry also praised the Invictus community for continuing to represent the values of courage, service and determination.
His appearance came shortly before he and Meghan Markle were reportedly welcomed by King Charles and Queen Camilla at Buckingham Palace.
The palace confirmed the private family gathering on Friday. Royal correspondent Rebecca English said no photographs would be released because it was a personal occasion.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were also joined by their children.
