Prince William is reportedly struggling with King Charles’ private meeting with Harry and Meghan
Prince William is said to be deeply unsettled following reports that King Charles privately met Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet during their visit to the UK.
British royal commentator Rebecca English first reported news of the private family gathering, which has reportedly caused fresh tension behind palace doors.
According to a source, Princess Kate has been particularly concerned by the effect the situation is having on her husband.
“Kate has never seen William this tormented, and it’s breaking her heart because there’s nothing she can really do,” the insider claimed. “She feels as though she’s watching him melt down in front of her eyes and is helpless to stop it.”
Although William is reportedly reluctant to show his emotions publicly, the source said he has been extremely anxious about Harry and Meghan’s return.
“He’s been pacing around, constantly on edge and has barely slept,” the insider alleged.
William is also said to fear that the Sussexes’ visit could create further problems for the Royal Family.
“He’s convinced they’re coming over to stir up trouble and manipulate his father,” the source claimed, adding that Charles has encouraged William to meet with Harry, something the Prince of Wales has reportedly refused to consider.
The insider said the most painful part for William is watching his father make an effort with Harry and Meghan despite the family’s troubled history.
“Seeing Charles bend over backwards for them after everything that has happened leaves William feeling completely betrayed,” the source said.
The disagreement has reportedly added strain to William’s relationship with his father, with the Prince of Wales blaming Harry and Meghan for the growing tension.
Kate is said to be finding the situation especially difficult because she knows how much William values his bond with King Charles.
According to the source, William cannot understand why the monarch continues to offer Harry and Meghan further opportunities to rebuild relations. He reportedly believes that every concession encourages the couple to ask for more.
The father and son are also said to have very different views on how the Duke and Duchess of Sussex should be handled, creating what the insider described as a significant divide between them.
Kate has reportedly been trying to keep the peace, but her efforts have so far made little difference.
William is said to want the public to believe that he is unaffected by Harry and Meghan’s actions. However, those closest to him reportedly believe the situation continues to weigh heavily on him.
