Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, were reportedly excited to spend time with their grandfather, King Charles.
Royal commentator Rebecca English first reported that the King had held a private, face-to-face meeting with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and their children.
The occasion was particularly significant for Lilibet, who had only visited the United Kingdom once as an infant and has spent most of her life in the United States.
Writing for Vanity Fair, royal expert Katie Nicholl shared details about how the Sussex children felt ahead of the family reunion.
“Archie and Lili were very excited about seeing their grandfather,” she wrote.
However, arranging the meeting was reportedly not straightforward. According to Nicholl, Prince Harry made several urgent calls to the King’s aides in an effort to ensure that the visit went ahead.
“There have been calls from a rather frantic Harry to his father’s aides, trying to make this happen,” she reported.
It was also claimed that plans for the Sussex family to stay at a royal residence were withdrawn at the last moment.
While few details have emerged from Buckingham Palace, King Charles reportedly wanted the meeting to take place on the condition that it remained completely private.
The monarch was said to have made it clear that he “wanted the meeting but was adamant it must be kept private.”

According to Rebecca English’s report for the Daily Mail, the closely guarded family gathering took place at the King’s private residence in Gloucestershire.
The meeting was reportedly kept away from public attention, with those involved making a deliberate effort to preserve the family’s privacy.
