Prince William makes ‘strategic’ move amid Harry and Meghan’s UK visit

Prince William and Princess Kate’s decision not to meet Prince Harry and Meghan Markle during their reported visit to Britain was a “strategic” move, according to a royal commentator.

Royal expert Helena Chard told Fox News Digital that King Charles had long hoped for an opportunity to see his grandchildren, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

The King, who is continuing to undergo cancer treatment, reportedly reunited with Harry, Meghan and their children last Friday. Chard suggested that family has become increasingly important to the monarch during his illness.

“Despite years of public fallout, he would not pass up the opportunity to privately see his grandchildren,” she said.

William and Kate, however, did not meet the Sussexes during the visit. Their absence came amid continuing tensions between William and Harry, with reports suggesting that communication between the brothers remains limited.

Chard said the Waleses’ decision should not necessarily be viewed as a deliberate snub.

“I don’t see the Prince and Princess of Wales’ absence as a snub. It is strategic,” she explained. “You can’t have an institutional reconciliation without Prince William, the future king.”

The commentator described Charles’ reported meeting with Archie and Lilibet as “long overdue,” but cautioned against seeing it as a complete reconciliation between the Sussexes and the Royal Family.

“Symbolically, this meeting was huge, but it’s not an institutional reconciliation,” Chard said. “Charles had always left the door open. I guess it’s a few small steps forward.”
