Meghan Markle’s estranged father, Thomas Markle, is likely to feel “devastated” following reports that Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet recently reunited with King Charles, according to a royal expert.
Thomas has never met his grandchildren and has been estranged from Meghan since 2018.
Speaking to the Daily Express, royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams discussed how Thomas may have reacted to reports of the royal reunion.
According to the report, King Charles and Queen Camilla hosted Prince Harry, Meghan, Archie and Lilibet at Highgrove House last Friday. The visit reportedly marked the first time the King had seen the children since 2022.
Fitzwilliams said Thomas’ strained relationship with Meghan began around the time of her wedding to Prince Harry, after he took part in staged paparazzi photographs. Thomas, who had been expected to walk his daughter down the aisle, later withdrew from the ceremony because of health problems.
“Meghan, who was largely brought up by her father, has never forgiven him,” Fitzwilliams claimed, adding that their relationship is unlikely to recover.
He suggested that Thomas would be deeply upset knowing King Charles had spent time with Archie and Lilibet while he remains unable to meet them.
“He is likely, since she will reportedly not see or be in contact with him, to feel devastated at the recent news,” Fitzwilliams said.
Thomas has frequently spoken publicly about his daughter since their relationship broke down. However, Meghan has not indicated that a reconciliation is likely.
