British television personality Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen has criticised both Buckingham Palace and Meghan Markle in a recent interview.
The 61-year-old interior designer, best known for appearing on the BBC’s Changing Rooms, compared the royal residence to the chaotic hotel featured in the classic sitcom Fawlty Towers.
Speaking to Heat Magazine after a recent visit to the palace, Llewelyn-Bowen claimed the once-grand building now felt like “a shabby old golf hotel,” criticising its smell and carpets.
He also suggested that Buckingham Palace could benefit from one of his signature interior makeovers.
Llewelyn-Bowen then turned his attention to the Duchess of Sussex, who recently visited the UK with Prince Harry and their two children.
He claimed Meghan may have joined the Royal Family with unrealistic expectations about royal life, comparing her experience to the fictional kingdom portrayed in The Princess Diaries.
“I think she felt that she was in The Princess Diaries and mistook joining the British royal family for Genovia,” he said.
