King Charles expected to honour Prince Harry with major Invictus Games appearance

King Charles is likely to accept Prince Harry’s invitation to attend the 2027 Invictus Games, according to a royal expert.

The Duke of Sussex has reportedly asked his father to join him at the week-long event, which will be held in Birmingham in July 2027. Harry is said to be hoping the King will attend either the opening or closing ceremony.

“The prince’s plan could see the monarch join him at major events during the Games,” an insider claimed.

Royal commentator Sarah Vine believes Charles will probably accept the invitation, viewing his attendance as part of his responsibilities as monarch.

Asked on Palace Confidential whether the King would support Harry at the Games, Vine said: “He will see that, I personally think, as his role as king. I think he would think it would cause too much psychodrama if he didn’t go.”

The comments come amid reports of renewed contact between the King and his younger son.

Charles and Queen Camilla reportedly met Harry, Meghan Markle and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, at Highgrove a month ago. The gathering was said to be the first time the King and Queen had met the Sussex family together in four years.

Harry and his family reportedly travelled from an undisclosed location in Europe for the private meeting at Charles’s Gloucestershire residence.

The Duke was in Britain to mark the one-year countdown to the Birmingham Invictus Games, which he founded for wounded, injured and sick military personnel and veterans.

Meghan, seven-year-old Archie and five-year-old Lilibet had initially been expected to miss the visit amid concerns about the family’s police protection in the UK.

If Charles attends the 2027 Games, the appearance would represent a major public show of support for Harry and his work with the Invictus community. It could also signal further progress in the father and son’s efforts to repair their strained relationship.
