King Charles is said to be reluctant to close the door completely on Prince Harry, with reports suggesting the Duke of Sussex is keen to make further visits to the UK to see his father and continue rebuilding their relationship.
Speaking on Royals Uncensored, host Jo Elvin discussed the latest speculation with former royal butler Grant Harrold and commentator Kinsey Schofield. Elvin said there were reports that Harry wanted to keep “building bridges,” with further visits potentially being planned.
She also noted rumours that Harry and Meghan Markle could consider a public apology in an attempt to bring the long-running family rift to an end.
“The monarch’s door is ajar,” Elvin said, contrasting it with Prince William’s reportedly far less welcoming position. “William’s is firmly shut with a chair propped up firmly against the door.”
Elvin suggested Charles may be motivated by how history will judge his relationship with his younger son.
“The King doesn’t want to be remembered for cutting off his son and for not trying to make it work,” she said. “I think he is selfish when it comes to William.”
The comments come amid continuing speculation that a possible reconciliation between Charles, Harry and Meghan has caught William off guard. Elvin argued that it would be unfair for the King to leave his eldest son to deal with the consequences when he eventually becomes monarch.
She added that Harry and Meghan’s actions would likely remain an issue for the Royal Family, whatever progress is made between the King and the Sussexes.
