King Charles’ relationship with Prince Harry is reportedly creating tension with Prince William, who is said to feel that his father has not fully supported him in the ongoing family dispute.
Royal author Christopher Andersen discussed the situation in an interview with Fox News Digital, claiming that the Prince of Wales is “disappointed” in the King for “not standing up for him.”
According to Andersen, William drew a firm boundary after Harry published his memoir, Spare, which contained a number of personal claims about the royal family.
“When it comes to Harry, William drew a line in the sand after the publication of Harry’s memoir, Spare,” the author said.
However, reports suggest that King Charles remains hopeful that the brothers may eventually repair their relationship. Other sources have previously claimed that William has been encouraged to “turn the other cheek” and leave the door open to reconciliation.
Despite his frustration, William is reportedly reluctant to openly challenge his father.
Andersen explained that the Prince of Wales loves Charles and understands how often the King was underestimated before taking the throne.
“William loves his father and appreciates better than anyone how underestimated Charles has been over the years,” he said, adding that William wants his father to build a lasting legacy as monarch.
At the same time, William is said to recognize the important role that he, Princess Kate and their family will play in the monarchy’s future.
“Deep down, he knows he and his family, particularly his wife, Kate, are the future of the monarchy,” Andersen added.
Although the King and William reportedly remain civil with one another, their different approaches to Harry may continue to create strain behind palace walls.
Royal expert Hugo Vickers also offered his view on the Prince of Wales, telling Page Six: “The problem with William is that he thinks he knows best.”
