Meghan Markle accused of ‘copying’ Kate Middleton with cape dress in Canada

Meghan Markle has faced accusations of taking style inspiration from Kate Middleton following her latest appearance in Canada.

The Duchess of Sussex attended the David Foster Foundation gala wearing an off-the-shoulder black gown by Canadian fashion label Greta Constantine. The dramatic dress featured a cape-style detail that some royal watchers compared to the green Emilia Wickstead outfit worn by the Princess of Wales at Wimbledon.

The similarities quickly sparked reactions on social media, with one X user writing: “Of course Meghan had to wear a cape dress last night. I wonder why?!”

Another user offered a harsher comparison, saying: “The Princess of Wales looks like she is wearing a dress with a cape. Markle looks like she’s wrapped herself in bedsheets!”

Meghan has regularly faced comparisons with Kate over the years, particularly when the two royals have worn similar colours, silhouettes or designers. However, neither Meghan nor her representatives has responded to the latest online criticism.

Prince Harry and Meghan stepped back from their roles as senior working royals in 2020 before moving to California with their son, Prince Archie. The couple later spoke publicly about their difficult experiences within the Royal Family, including concerns about conversations surrounding Archie’s skin tone. They welcomed their daughter, Princess Lilibet, in 2021.
