Queen Camilla is reportedly keen for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to return to the royal fold, believing their presence could help her retain a prominent role within the monarchy.
According to an insider, the Queen hopes to continue carrying out ceremonial duties and maintaining a public profile even after King Charles is no longer on the throne.
“Camilla would like to hold onto her position within the monarchy moving forwards, even if Charles, God forbid, is not around,” the source told Closer Online.
“She feels it’s her right to continue to serve in a prominent role. She loves the ceremonial part and the high profile that comes with it, but, more than anything, she doesn’t want to be shunted to one side.”
Despite her reported differences with Harry and Meghan, Camilla allegedly does not view the Sussexes as the greatest threat to her future position. Instead, the source claimed that Prince William and Princess Kate could have far more influence over her role once William becomes king.
“As many gripes as she has about Harry and Meghan, ultimately, they are not a threat to her the way that William and Kate are because they are the ones who will eventually be in a position to decide her fate,” the insider said.
The source also alleged that, although Camilla, William and Kate remain cordial in public, tension continues to exist behind palace walls.
“No matter how many pleasantries they exchange, there’s always this undercurrent of mistrust that is impossible to deny,” the insider added.
