Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are reportedly considering a major lifestyle change as they weigh their desire for greater privacy against growing financial pressures.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have faced several personal and professional challenges since stepping back from royal duties and building a financially independent life in the United States. Now, a source quoted by Woman’s Day claims the couple must decide whether they can afford to spend significantly more time at their holiday home in Portugal.
The property reportedly plays an important role in their plans. It gives Harry easier access to the UK while offering Meghan and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, a greater level of privacy.
“Their time in Portugal is always so invigorating, it’s such a great reset,” the insider claimed. “Meghan came back very hyped up about spending a whole lot more time there.”
According to the source, Meghan believes Portugal meets many of the family’s needs.
“She says it checks so many boxes,” the insider continued. “For one thing, they have so much peace and privacy there, it’s so nourishing. And they get much-needed family time.”
The source added that Meghan is reportedly considering turning the property into a part-time base rather than using it solely for holidays. The family could spend extended periods there while continuing to maintain their main home in California.
However, the plan may depend on the couple’s finances. Their lucrative Spotify agreement ended in 2023, while questions have continued to surround the future of some of their commercial partnerships and entertainment projects.
There has also been speculation that Harry and Meghan’s lifestyle costs may be exceeding their current income, despite the financial cushion Harry has reportedly received through inheritances.
“This all hinges on whether their finances will allow them to have this home, but there’s no doubt Meg has her heart set on it,” the source said.
The insider also claimed Meghan has been speaking with Princess Eugenie about a possible project in Europe.
“She’s even talking with Eugenie about how they could team up and get involved in something together in Europe,” the source said. “She has been trying to collaborate with her on something for a long time, and being neighbours would make it easier.”
For now, the couple appears to be facing a complicated choice: invest further in the private European lifestyle they reportedly want or remain cautious as they navigate an uncertain financial and professional future.
