Meghan Markle reportedly has no interest in returning to royal life, even if Prince Harry manages to repair his relationship with King Charles and the wider Royal Family.
The Duchess of Sussex, who stepped down as a senior working royal alongside Harry in 2020, has since built a new life in California, where she is raising their children and developing her business ventures.
Former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond believes Meghan is unlikely to move back to the UK or take on any royal responsibilities again, regardless of what happens between Harry and his family.
Speaking to the Mirror, Bond said Meghan is likely aware that her popularity remains low in Britain and may now see rebuilding her public image in the country as a lost cause.
“Meghan is an intelligent woman. I’m sure she is perfectly aware of her extremely low popularity in the UK,” Bond said, adding that the Duchess appears much happier with her life in California.
Bond also suggested Meghan may have encouraged Harry to stop dwelling on past disputes and focus on the future. However, she does not believe Meghan will play a major role in helping him mend his strained family relationships.
According to the royal commentator, Meghan’s priorities are firmly centred on her children, her life in California and her growing business interests.
Bond further claimed that Meghan may be comfortable with Harry remaining distant from some members of the Royal Family, particularly Prince William, while maintaining only a fragile relationship with King Charles.
She pointed to Meghan’s own estrangement from her father, Thomas Markle, suggesting the Duchess may not view long-term family separation in the same way others do.
For now, Meghan appears settled in the United States, while any possible reconciliation between Harry and the royals is likely to remain his own personal journey.
