King Charles continues to rely heavily on Queen Camilla for emotional support, even after more than two decades of marriage, according to royal author Catherine Mayer.
The couple married in 2005, but Mayer says Camilla still has a noticeable and uplifting effect on the King whenever they are together.
In her new book, Divide & Rule, Mayer describes Camilla’s influence on Charles as almost “magical” and transformative.
She recalls seeing the King appear exhausted or visibly unsettled, only for his mood to change as soon as Camilla entered the room. According to Mayer, Charles would immediately brighten, with Camilla’s presence helping to lift his spirits.
The author also suggests that Charles became certain about Camilla’s importance in his life following his divorce from Princess Diana and Diana’s death in 1997.
Mayer believes the King came to see Camilla as the one person capable of giving him the emotional strength and stability he needed. She adds that Camilla has consistently been willing to provide that support, making her an essential figure in both his personal life and his reign.
