Prince William has paid a heartfelt tribute to renowned mountaineer Nirmal Purja following the deadly avalanche on Broad Peak in Pakistan.
The Prince of Wales shared a personal statement on Instagram Stories on Saturday, expressing his sorrow over the tragedy and offering condolences to the families of those who lost their lives.
“I was truly saddened to hear of the tragic death of Nirmal Purja and those who lost their lives in the avalanche on Broad Peak,” William wrote.
Reflecting on Purja’s extraordinary career, the future king praised both his military service and his achievements in mountaineering.
“Nims served with distinction in the British Armed Forces before becoming one of the world’s greatest mountaineers, putting Nepalese climbers on the map,” he said.
William added that Purja’s determination, humility and selflessness made him a truly exceptional figure.
“His relentless pursuit of what seemed impossible, combined with his humility and selflessness, made him truly unique,” the prince continued.
He concluded the message by writing: “My thoughts are with his family and the families of all those who died. W.”
Purja, widely known as Nims or Nimsdai, was a celebrated British-Nepali mountaineer who earned international recognition for his remarkable climbing achievements. He reportedly died alongside members of his climbing team after an avalanche struck Broad Peak.
