Meghan Markle is reportedly refusing to let online criticism overshadow her excitement after With Love, Meghan received an Emmy nomination.
The Duchess of Sussex has faced days of criticism from royal commentators and other media figures, with some questioning how her lifestyle series secured recognition following reports about the show’s future.
However, a source speaking to Heat magazine claimed Meghan believes the controversy has been exaggerated and that the nomination process was entirely legitimate.
“She says the whole narrative that she’s somehow getting special treatment by getting this nomination after her show was cancelled just proves her point,” the insider said, claiming that similar situations occur regularly and are permitted under the rules.
According to the source, Meghan is particularly surprised by suggestions that she somehow influenced or manipulated the selection process.
“All she did was make the series and submit it for consideration like everyone else,” the insider said, adding that she feels critics are “grasping at straws.”
Meghan reportedly accepts that viewers and commentators are entitled to disagree with the nomination. However, she is said to believe their frustration is being unfairly directed at her rather than the judging panel.
“If people want to disagree with the voters, that’s their right,” the source quoted her as saying. “But they’re directing all their anger at her instead of accepting that the judging panel obviously saw something they didn’t.”
The insider also claimed Meghan feels she is placed in a no-win situation, regardless of how her projects perform.
“It’s very frustrating because no matter what she does, she can’t win,” the source said. “If the show hadn’t been nominated, people would have called it a failure, and now that it has been recognised, they’re saying the nomination doesn’t count.”
From Meghan’s perspective, the source continued, critics repeatedly change their standards because some have already formed a negative opinion of her.
“The goalposts keep moving because some people have already decided they don’t like her, and they’re working backwards to prove their assumptions about her,” the insider claimed.
Meghan is also reportedly preparing for the criticism to intensify as the awards ceremony approaches, but she remains determined to enjoy the achievement.
“As far as she’s concerned, she’s earned the right to celebrate this moment, and she’s not going to let anyone take that away from her,” the source said.
Winning the award would make the occasion even more memorable, but the insider claimed Meghan already considers the nomination something worth celebrating.
