Prince William may still be struggling to move past the fallout from Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s royal departure, according to a former BBC royal correspondent.
With the anniversary of Princess Diana’s death approaching on August 31, royal commentator Jennie Bond has reflected on the continuing rift between Diana’s sons and the possibility of a reconciliation.
Writing for the i, Bond suggested that the anniversary could provide a meaningful opportunity for William and Harry to put their differences aside. However, she believes William’s lingerie anger may prove difficult to overcome.
“What a tribute it would be to Diana if her sons could finally be reconciled on the anniversary of her untimely death,” she wrote.
“But if Harry’s fire has been quelled, the anger smoldering inside William, who is known to be a stubborn character, could be much harder to extinguish.”
According to Bond, William continues to feel deeply betrayed by Harry's public revelations about the Royal Family. The Duke of Sussex discussed private family matters in interviews, his Netflix series and his memoir, Spare.
Bond explained that William believes his younger brother “sold the family secrets, or at least Harry’s version of them,” and now wants to be welcomed back into the royal fold.
While King Charles may be more open to repairing his relationship with Harry, William reportedly remains far less willing to forgive and forget.
Bond concluded with a blunt reminder about where the power lies in any potential reconciliation: “If any trick is to be called, it will be William who does the calling.”
