Meghan reportedly told her husband that she would “rather just stay at home” in California
Prince Harry is reportedly trying to persuade Meghan Markle to join him on his next visit to the UK after King Charles offered the couple accommodation at a royal residence.
The Duke of Sussex is expected to return to Britain in September for the annual WellChild Awards, one of the charitable causes he has continued to support since stepping back from royal duties.
According to Heat World, Harry is willing to accept his father’s reported offer. However, he is said to believe that Meghan should accompany him.
The Duchess of Sussex is reportedly far less enthusiastic about the idea and has told Harry that she would “rather just stay at home” in California.
Sources claimed the couple’s differing views have created tension behind closed doors. Harry is reportedly keen to continue rebuilding his relationship with both his father and the British public, while Meghan remains hesitant about returning to the UK.
One insider told the publication that Harry has been working “overtime to change her mind,” with the issue becoming a growing source of disagreement between the couple.
“Harry really wants her there with him when he goes in September,” the source claimed. “He feels like it’s crucial they build on the momentum from the last visit, and having her there by his side will send the message loud and clear that they’re both being welcomed back.”
The insider added that Harry believes staying together at Buckingham Palace would demonstrate that Meghan has the King’s support.
“If the public sees them both staying together at Buckingham Palace, it will go a long way to proving Meghan has got the King’s stamp of approval too,” the source said, adding that Harry believes the move could help improve her popularity in the UK.
Neither Buckingham Palace nor representatives for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have publicly confirmed the reported invitation.
