Prince Harry is reportedly urging Meghan Markle to join him on a possible summer visit to Balmoral as he works to rebuild his relationship with King Charles.
Behind the scenes, however, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are said to have different priorities. While Harry is focused on repairing ties with his father, Meghan reportedly remains concerned about the couple’s financial responsibilities.
Previous reports have claimed that the Sussexes are spending money faster than they are earning it. Meghan has largely taken responsibility for expanding the couple’s commercial ventures, while Harry is believed to prefer work connected to his royal background.
His other major priority is said to be reconciling with the King, who has been undergoing cancer treatment.
With a rumored invitation to Balmoral reportedly hanging in the balance, Harry is now said to be doing everything he can to persuade Meghan to accompany him.
“She’s just trying to keep their heads above water financially, and as great as it is that this trip to the UK might generate goodwill, it’s not going to generate cash,” a source claimed.
Harry, however, reportedly believes Meghan should accept the invitation after the concessions he secured from the Palace.
“He stood very strong on her behalf and demanded plenty of concessions from the Palace and the royal team, and they’ve been very generous,” the insider said. “So, in his view, she ought to be gracious and reward that show of good faith by showing up and standing by his side.”
The Duke is also believed to be nervous about returning to Balmoral alone and facing questions about his wife’s absence.
“He must be dreading going over there on his own and, once again, having everybody asking him, ‘Where’s Meghan?’” the source continued. “It doesn’t feel like it’s too much to ask her to come stand by his side, even if it’s not something she wants, just for his sake.”
According to the insider, Harry is particularly eager to arrange another family gathering after seeing how much a previous visit with his children reportedly meant to the King.
“He knows just how much it meant to his father to see the children at Highgrove back in July,” the source claimed. “He doesn’t see why they should wait until Christmas for the next family visit, especially since there’s a very real chance they may not make it over there for the holidays.”
The insider added that Harry does not want to miss a rare opportunity to spend time with his father.
“These opportunities with his father don’t come along very often, so there’s a real danger of getting people’s backs up if Meghan doesn’t come,” the source said.
An invitation to Balmoral would also be viewed as a significant gesture given the couple’s strained history with the royal family. Harry reportedly believes that accepting it and respecting royal customs could help restore his father’s trust.
“One of the key things that’s going to persuade his dad that they can be trusted again is to follow protocol and show proper respect to the institution and to him,” the insider explained.
Harry is also reportedly worried that any hesitation from either him or Meghan could cause the invitation to disappear.
“Harry senses that if either of them is hesitant about accepting this invitation, it will get withdrawn the way it did the last time,” the source concluded. “He doesn’t want to risk that happening again.”
