King Charles and Prince William are reportedly preparing for a private meeting as tensions grow over Prince Harry’s possible return to the UK later this year.
According to Closer Magazine, the King has agreed to sit down with the Prince of Wales to address their differing views on rebuilding ties with Harry. Sources claim the situation has become increasingly uncomfortable behind palace walls, with Charles and William said to be keeping their communication to a minimum.
“It’s making life uncomfortable for everyone at the Palace,” an insider claimed. “Their advisers are still communicating, but William and the King are barely acknowledging each other, even when they’re in the same meeting.”
The source alleged that the strained relationship is creating disruption within the royal household and that some believe William’s distance from his father could ultimately benefit Harry and Meghan Markle.
Charles is reportedly open to repairing his relationship with his youngest son, while William remains strongly opposed to any arrangement that could bring Harry back into royal life.
The insider said Harry’s expected UK visit has made the matter more urgent, claiming that William is frustrated because he feels his concerns are being ignored.
“Time is of the essence because Harry’s upcoming trip could tip things over the edge,” the source said. “If he doesn’t get a chance to air his grievances and say why he thinks it’s a dreadful idea, he may very well do something drastic.”
William is said to fear that Harry and Meghan could be seeking a more permanent role in Britain while remaining based in California. He reportedly believes they may be trying to restore certain royal privileges and rebuild relationships with members of the wider family.
The source added that William feels Harry and Meghan have never properly apologised to him or Catherine, Princess of Wales, and that any attempt to revive a part-time royal arrangement could create fresh problems for the monarchy.
Harry and Meghan stepped down as senior working royals in 2020 after their proposed “half-in, half-out” model was rejected. Reports suggest Harry would like to continue charitable work linked to the Royal Family while remaining based in the US, a prospect that could reopen the debate over his role.
