Prince William is reportedly focused on his future with Kate Middleton and their three children rather than repairing his relationship with Prince Harry.
Royal commentator Phil Dampier claims the Prince of Wales would struggle to reunite with his younger brother, even for an occasion honouring their late mother, Princess Diana.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, Dampier recalled how the brothers briefly put aside their differences to unveil a statue of Diana at Kensington Palace five years ago.
“William and Harry put aside their differences for the unveiling of the statue of their mother, Princess Diana, but things are much worse now,” he said.
The 30th anniversary of Diana’s death falls next year and could offer the brothers an opportunity to appear together. Dampier, however, does not believe William is interested in such a reunion.
“I think William would find it very hard to meet Harry, even to honour Diana’s memory,” he said.
“Next year marks the 30th anniversary of her death, so that would be an obvious time for them to try and heal their rift and at least be seen together, but I don’t think William’s heart is in it.”
According to Dampier, friends of the Prince have suggested that William now considers his relationship with Harry part of the past.
“As far as he is concerned, Harry is the past, and he is only concerned about the future for his wife Catherine and their children George, Charlotte and Louis,” the commentator claimed.
Dampier also believes William may never forgive Harry for the public allegations he made after stepping down as a working royal.
He said the damage was caused not only by Harry’s departure from royal duties but also by the claims made in his memoir, Spare, the Sussexes’ Netflix documentary series and the couple’s interview with Oprah Winfrey.
The expert argued that William was particularly upset by the controversy surrounding comments about the skin colour of Harry and Meghan’s son before his birth.
“It led to Catherine being smeared as a racist, and he will never forget that,” Dampier claimed.
Neither William nor Harry has publicly responded to the commentator’s latest remarks.
