King Charles thanked the firefighters and volunteers who battled major wildfires in Scotland this summer.
The Royal Family shared a video of the King’s visit to Cairngorms National Park on Instagram on Wednesday, September 16.
During the visit, Charles met firefighters, volunteers and community leaders who responded to the Glenmore and Abernethy wildfires. The fires started in July and continued for more than a month.
The King thanked the emergency teams for their hard work. He also listened as first responders shared their experiences of fighting one of the area’s most serious environmental disasters in recent years.
His visit also celebrated a new partnership between Cairngorms National Park and Shenandoah National Park in Virginia, United States.
The two parks will officially become “Sister Parks” and work together to protect nature and wildlife.
Earlier this year, King Charles told the US Congress that the mountains of Scotland and Appalachia were once part of the same mountain range millions of years ago.
To mark the new partnership, the King met staff from both parks and spoke with local Junior Rangers.
