King Charles has shared an emotional open letter about the devastating wildfires that have affected parts of the United Kingdom and Europe.
The letter was posted on the King’s official Instagram account alongside several photographs from one of his recent public visits.
The images show the damage caused by the fires, including burned trees and large areas of blackened land.
Opening the letter, the King said that he and Queen Camilla were “appalled” by the destruction caused by wildfires over the summer.
He said the fires had damaged homes, businesses and natural areas in the Cairngorms, across the UK and in other parts of Europe.
King Charles also praised the firefighters, emergency workers and volunteers who worked bravely to bring the fires under control.
He expressed his gratitude to those who continue to support affected communities as they begin the long process of recovery and rebuilding.
The King also shared his concerns about climate change. He said the recent fires were a powerful reminder of the growing pressure that long periods of heat and drought are placing on the planet.
He called for stronger preparations to deal with future disasters, as well as action to address the causes of climate change. Without such action, he warned, destructive events like these could happen more often.
Ending the letter on a hopeful note, King Charles praised the courage and kindness shown by affected communities.
“It is my most heartfelt hope that they continue to find in one another the strength to rebuild,” he wrote, signing the message “Charles R.”
