King Charles’ letter signals no return to royal duties for Harry and Meghan, report says

King Charles has reportedly made it clear that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle remain private citizens and do not represent the royal family.

According to the report, a letter sent on the King’s behalf through the Lord Chamberlain recalled local authorities and other organizations of the couple’s position. Royal commentator Russell Myers said it ruled out hopes that they could return to some royal duties while keeping their independent lives.

Writing in the Mirror, Myers said the Sussexes’ return to Britain had raised questions about their plans. He questioned whether the couple, or Harry alone, wanted to repair relations with the royal family and how they might do so.

Myers described the letter as a clear statement that Harry and Meghan would not be returning as working royals. His comments focused on their official roles, rather than whether they could rebuild personal relationships with family members.

He also said the Sussexes were unhappy after the letter became public. According to his account, they felt surprised by what they saw as a lack of respect.
