Prince William joined well-known British sports stars on Thursday to launch a campaign that aims to prevent suicide through sport.
Called “On Your Side,” the campaign will help people in sport recognize signs that someone is struggling and offer support before they reach a crisis.
Kensington Palace shared a video on William’s behalf, saying: “One conversation can change everything. The world of sport is coming together behind one shared goal: suicide prevention.”
The campaign is backed by sports stars including Harry Kane, George Russell, Kofi Josephs, Ruqsana Begum, Carl Frampton, George Baker and Rochelle Clark. William thanked them for their support.
The Royal Foundation, the charity run by William and his wife Catherine, created the campaign to make suicide prevention part of everyday life in sport.
The launch came after Uganda announced it was leaving the Invictus Games community, founded by Prince Harry. Uganda had joined just weeks earlier, becoming its first East African member.
General Muhoozi Kainerugaba announced the decision on X, formerly Twitter. He said Uganda deeply respected King Charles and did not want his involvement to be seen as opposition to him.
He also said Uganda would not take part in anything without the King’s approval. His statement did not establish whether King Charles had expressed any objection to Uganda’s involvement.
