Prince Harry has reportedly spoken privately with his father, King Charles, after returning to Britain with Meghan Markle and their children.
A source close to the couple told The i Paper that Harry and Charles have been in contact despite growing tensions between the Sussexes and palace officials.
The source said the couple’s relationship with the Royal Family is unlikely to affect where they choose to live.
Harry and Meghan are said to be unhappy with palace officials. However, they see their problems with the palace as separate from their personal relationships with family members.
The couple reportedly blame the King’s advisers for the tensions. Charles, meanwhile, is said to believe they cannot carry out official royal duties while also earning money through business deals.
The report follows claims that a letter was sent to clarify the couple’s status after their reported move back to Britain from the United States.
According to the report, the letter says Harry and Meghan are not working royals and should be treated much like private citizens. It also says they should not be addressed as His or Her Royal Highness.
The letter was reportedly issued by the Lord Chamberlain, the Royal Household’s most senior official, after several requests for guidance about the couple’s role.
It states that Harry and Meghan stepped down from duties representing the monarch in January 2020 and are no longer working members of the Royal Family.
