Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been advised to focus more on their work and less on how they are presented to the public.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were reportedly unhappy after King Charles referred to them as private citizens in a recent letter.
However, public relations expert Mayah Riaz said that discussing their public status could distract people from their projects.
“There is an obvious irony in having to publicly announce that you are a public figure,” Riaz told the Mirror. “The most powerful public figures don’t usually need to tell us they are relevant. Their influence speaks for itself.”
She warned that focusing too much on their title or status could shift attention away from their work.
“The danger for Harry and Meghan is that by focusing on the label, they risk making the story about their status rather than their work,” she said.
Riaz also questioned whether the couple simply wants public attention or wants greater control over how that attention is managed.
“Do they want the spotlight, or do they want to control the spotlight?” she asked. “Because those are two very different things.”
