Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s decision to step down as senior working royals reportedly had a major effect on the younger generation of the Royal Family.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped away from their official royal duties in 2020. They have now reportedly returned to Britain for an extended stay with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
Reports also claim that Archie and Lilibet began attending school in the UK after the family moved closer to their royal relatives last month.
Discussing Harry and Meghan’s departure on HELLO! magazine’s A Right Royal Podcast, royal expert Emily Nash said the decision affected their entire generation of the family.
“You know, their decision to leave affected that entire generation of the Royal Family,” Nash said.
She added that the departure placed more responsibility on Prince William and could also affect his children in the future.
“It’s left a lot of responsibility on not just William’s shoulders, but on those of his children,” she said.
Nash also referred to the public claims Harry and Meghan have made about their experiences within the Royal Family. These include allegations that some relatives were too formal and uncomfortable with physical affection.
She also mentioned Harry's claim that William pushed him during an argument, causing him to fall onto a dog bowl and damaging his necklace.
“It’s endless,” Nash said.
Her comments came ahead of Harry’s first birthday since his reported return to the UK. Prince William and other members of the Royal Family are not expected to attend the celebration.
Harry is likely to spend the occasion with Meghan and their children, Archie and Lilibet.
Meanwhile, King Charles recently confirmed that Harry and Meghan remain non-working members of the Royal Family.
“There is no change to the current status of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex,” part of the statement read. “Their styles as His and Her Royal Highness remain in abeyance and are not used.”
