Prince William and Kate Middleton want the public to focus on their efforts to improve people’s lives.
However, royal expert Daniela Elser has warned that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s return to the UK could make that difficult. She believes Kate could “pay the biggest price” if the couple attracts widespread media attention.
According to the Daily Star, Elser said the main problem may not be a direct clash between the two couples. Instead, it could be the intense public interest surrounding Harry and Meghan.
“The issue of the Sussexes 2.0 is not just one of our fickle attention, but of narrative and image,” Elser said.
She explained that William and Kate want to highlight their work on climate change, mental health and early childhood development. Their message, she suggests, is: “Look at us helping make the world better.”
But Elser believes those projects could be overshadowed by the family drama involving Harry and Meghan.
“Who cares about some new clever-clogs solar panels or anxiety initiative when we could be focused on the juicy, human drama of the prodigal, reportedly uncontroversial, son and his polarizing lady wife who loves a social media post?” she wrote.
According to the royal expert, the situation could be especially difficult for Kate. Harry and Meghan’s return to the UK may bring old reports about Kate and Meghan’s relationship back into the spotlight.
