Princess Diana’s brother, Charles Spencer, says he hopes Prince William and Prince Harry will one day repair their relationship. He also made clear that he would support either nephew if they needed him.
“I think there is a perception in the media that I am on Harry’s side,” the Earl Spencer told interviewer Laura Kuenssberg, according to Hello!. “Well, I’m on my deceased sister’s sons’ side, both of them.”
Spencer said he would be equally available to William and Harry, but does not involve himself in either “camp” beyond trying to be “a benign figure.”
Asked about the brothers’ strained relationship, he said there were “a lot of reasons on both sides” for how things had reached this point. “I hope one day it’s resolved,” he said, while acknowledging that he does not know the full details and would feel intrusive getting more involved.
“Of course a mother would want her two sons to be happy together and love each other,” he added.
Spencer has previously voiced concern about Harry’s security in Britain. “I personally worry about the fifth-in-line to the throne who’s served in the military not having any police protection,” he said.
