King Charles has made it clear that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will not return as working members of the Royal Family.
On September 7, the King reportedly issued a formal letter confirming the couple’s position following their return to Britain.
The announcement addressed questions about whether Harry and Meghan could restart the “half-in, half-out” arrangement they wanted in 2020. Under that plan, the couple hoped to carry out some royal duties while also living independently and earning their own money. The Royal Family rejected the proposal at the time.
A royal source told RadarOnline.com that the palace’s position is now clear. Harry and Meghan are not working royals, and their HRH titles remain unused. Their public appearances and charity work must be treated as private activities rather than official royal duties.
The source claimed Charles wanted to prevent the couple’s appearances from being mistaken for events carried out on behalf of the King or the monarchy.
The letter was reportedly issued by Lord Benyon, the Lord Chamberlain. It said the palace had received several requests for guidance after Harry and Meghan moved back to the UK.
“To help avoid doubt or confusion, the King has directed that the following information be shared,” the letter stated.
It also noted that Harry and Meghan stepped down from representing the sovereign in January 2020 and are no longer working members of the Royal Family.
