Earl Spencer says only his wife, Cat Jarman, and his publishers knew about his book on Princess Diana before he told family members shortly ahead of its release.
Speaking on CBS Mornings, Spencer was asked whether his nephews, Prince William and Prince Harry, had known about Swan Song: Diana, My Sister.
“I decided not to have anyone involved in the book,” he said.
Spencer explained that he kept the project private because he did not want anyone to think other family members, particularly Harry, had helped with it.
During the interview, he also spoke warmly about his sister. He described Diana as “a truly brilliant mother” who had always been her own person.
“There was no one like her,” he said.
CBS Mornings shared a clip of the interview on X, formerly Twitter. The clip also covered Spencer’s response to Buckingham Palace’s statement about his allegations concerning King Charles after Diana’s death.
Spencer rejected suggestions that his memory could be unreliable.
“They have to, sort of, pretend there’s something wrong with my mind or my memory. There’s nothing wrong with either,” he said.
