Harry forgiven, Andrew forgotten? Claims of unfair treatment in the royal family

Andrew, the father of Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, reportedly believes the royal family has treated Prince Harry more kindly than him.

According to a source quoted by the Daily Mail, Andrew feels angry about losing his royal titles and privileges. He believes Harry has received better treatment, even after leaving royal duties and publicly criticising the family.

The source said Andrew believes he deserves recognition for remaining loyal to the monarchy and avoiding public criticism. Some members of the wider family reportedly share this view.

King Charles removed Andrew’s royal titles, including the title of prince, last year following scrutiny of his links to Jeffrey Epstein, a convicted sex offender. Andrew also had to leave Royal Lodge, where he had lived for 20 years. He has consistently denied wrongdoing.

Andrew’s supporters have compared his treatment with that of Harry and Meghan Markle. The couple stepped down as senior royals and moved to the United States in 2020. They later publicly criticised the Palace and senior members of the royal family.

However, critics say the situations are different. Harry has not faced the same accusations about his royal connections or links to convicted offenders.

Harry’s criticism of the royal family has divided public opinion. But it has not caused the same level of anger among royal supporters as Andrew and Sarah Ferguson’s alleged links to Epstein.

In February, Thames Valley Police arrested Andrew on suspicion of misconduct in public office. He was questioned for 12 hours on his 66th birthday.

Andrew returned to the headlines this week after winning a High Court challenge over police searches of his two homes.

At Thursday’s hearing, Justice Hilliard said police and an unnamed Old Bailey judge had made a serious error. Police accepted that the search warrants were unlawful, and the High Court cancelled them.

The criminal investigation into Andrew remains open. He continues to deny wrongdoing.
