Hugh Jackman says the script convinced him to join Ridley Scott’s Treasure Island

Hugh Jackman has shared why he agreed to star in Ridley Scott’s upcoming film Treasure Island, in which he is reportedly set to play pirate Long John Silver.

Speaking to Variety, Jackman said he was impressed by Jack Thorne’s script as soon as he read it.

Jackman explained that Scott sent him the script. Although he knew a little about the story, he had never read the book or watched a film version.

He was surprised to learn that many familiar pirate ideas came from the original tale.

Jackman praised Thorne, who also wrote Adolescence and worked on the Harry Potter stage play, calling the script “amazing.”

He also said the story kept him guessing and had an ending that surprised him in a satisfying way.

“I had no idea where it was going, and I was very surprised but satisfied at the end,” he said.

Treasure Island follows Jim Hawkins, a young boy who finds a map showing the location of buried treasure. He sets off on a dangerous sea journey and comes into conflict with Long John Silver.

Scott hopes to start filming on November 1.
