The criticism follows reports of a planned joint visit to Nottingham
Piers Morgan has accused Prince Harry and Meghan Markle of running a “rival royal family operation” following reports that the couple will visit Nottingham on Thursday.
According to The Sunday Times, the visit would mark their first joint engagement since reportedly returning to live in the UK in August.
Nottingham holds significance for the couple, who made their first joint appearance there after announcing their engagement in 2017.
The newspaper described the planned visit as a sign of their “determination to be viewed as public figures”. Harry and Meghan are expected to visit projects at three charities supporting young people and local communities through music, film, sport and efforts to tackle food poverty.
The plans follow a reported letter from King Charles last month describing the couple’s position as “akin to private citizens” rather than public figures. The letter also reportedly stated that they should not be addressed as his and her royal highness.

Reacting to the report, Morgan questioned the couple’s motives.
“It’s actually outrageous that these two are now running a rival royal family operation in the UK, purely for personal gain,” he said.
“Can’t even imagine how furious the working Royals, doing their selfless duty day in, day out, must feel about it.”
Morgan’s comments represent his assessment of the visit. The report does not establish that the engagements are intended for personal gain or confirm how working members of the royal family feel about them.
