Duchess Receives Praise for Filling in for Queen Camilla at Last-Minute Engagement
Buckingham Palace has recognised the Duchess of Gloucester for her dedication after she stepped in to cover a significant royal engagement at short notice.
On Monday, the Duchess, known for maintaining a low profile, took over for Queen Camilla at the 96th Field of Remembrance event at Westminster Abbey. The Queen Consort had to withdraw due to a chest infection.
“In memory of all those who have lost their lives in war, The Duchess of Gloucester planted a cross and met with veterans and military personnel,” the Palace shared in a message alongside a video from the event.
Since 1928, the grounds outside Westminster Abbey have served as a memorial site for planting crosses in remembrance. This year, over 300 plots were featured, including those representing The Rifles, The Royal Lancers, and the Grenadier Guards.
The Duchess received commendation from the Palace for her role, laying the Remembrance cross ahead of Armistice Day to honour fallen veterans.
