Emotional Princess of Wales Makes First Appearance Since Completing Cancer Treatment
Kate Middleton appeared visibly emotional during her first major royal engagement since finishing her cancer treatment, as she joined Prince William at the annual Festival of Remembrance.
The Princess of Wales, who publicly announced her cancer diagnosis in February and completed her nine-month treatment in September, attended the solemn event alongside her husband. Standing by William’s side, Kate fought back tears as they paid tribute to the fallen soldiers of World War II.
For the sombre occasion on Saturday, Kate wore a black blazer-dress, accessorised with a poppy brooch symbolising remembrance. She also honoured Princess Diana by wearing her late mother-in-law’s Collingwood pearl earrings and carried a classic quilted Chanel clutch. Prince William opted for a blue suit paired with a red and black striped tie.
Kate’s emotional moment followed a candid interview in which Prince William opened up about the challenges of the past year. Speaking with journalists in Cape Town, the future King admitted that dealing with both his wife’s and King Charles’s cancer diagnoses had made 2024 the “hardest year” of his life.
“It’s been dreadful. It’s probably been the hardest year in my life,” William confessed. “I’m incredibly proud of my wife and my father for how they’ve managed everything. But from a personal family standpoint, it’s been brutal.”
The Prince and Princess of Wales are also scheduled to attend the Cenotaph parade on Sunday morning, where they will join senior royals in paying further tributes.
