The Duke of York takes a firm stand against relocating, defying the King’s latest decision.
Prince Andrew has reportedly made a final decision regarding his future at the Royal Lodge, refusing to vacate the luxury residence despite mounting pressure from King Charles. Following the King’s recent financial cuts, the Duke of York has opted to hold his ground and remain at the property he’s called home for decades.
The father of Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie is resisting the suggestion to move to Frogmore Cottage, previously occupied by Harry and Meghan Markle. King Charles, 75, has ended Andrew’s financial support, cutting off his royal income and no longer covering his security expenses. However, Andrew has shown no signs of budging.
In the updated edition of his book Charles III: New King. New Court, author Robert Hardman noted that the Duke is no longer a financial burden on the King but remains steadfast in his decision to stay. Hardman explained, “Andrew feels that moving out of the Royal Lodge would be akin to publicly accepting guilt, despite no formal charges.”
Royal commentator Hugo Vickers added that the upkeep of the Royal Lodge is proving costly, with extensive repairs needed. “Andrew appears to be holding the fort, refusing to move or make necessary repairs,” Vickers said. “He would do himself a favour by finding a graceful way to relocate.”
Meanwhile, Rupert Bell, speaking with Times Radio, offered a different perspective, noting that Andrew’s stubbornness has often led him into trouble. “One of Andrew’s issues is that he is frequently convinced of his own rightness, and this arrogance has contributed to his current predicament,” Bell remarked.
As tensions escalate between the brothers, it remains uncertain how the standoff over the Royal Lodge will be resolved.
