Prince Edward Takes Over Royal Duties as Sophie Recovers from Golf Ball Accident

Duke of Edinburgh steps in after Sophie’s mishap at Legoland during a charity event.

Prince Edward made a public appearance in Cambridge just a day after his wife, Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, suffered an accident involving a golf ball. The Duke visited Wandlebury Woods, where he enjoyed coffee from a pop-up shop and engaged in discussions on conservation efforts.

Despite the incident, which took place at Legoland Windsor, Edward's outing underscored his dedication to continuing royal engagements. The accident occurred when Sophie was struck in the face by a golf ball during a crazy golf game while launching the NSPCC's Numbers Day 2025 initiative.

The Duchess, who serves as Patron of the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC), was attending the charity event when the ball, struck by her, rebounded and hit her head. The incident, captured by royal photographer Tim Rooke, raised concerns, but Edward’s prompt return to duties has offered reassurance.

Julie Spence, Lord Lieutenant of Cambridgeshire, reported on the Duke's visit, highlighting his focus on conservation and land management at the site. The appearance is seen as a positive sign of support and continuity following the Duchess’s accident.
