Prince Harry Faces Setback as Claims About King Charles Disputed

Royal expert challenges Duke’s portrayal of the King’s personality in Spare.

Prince Harry has suffered a fresh blow as claims made in his memoir, Spare, about King Charles’ lack of physical affection have been publicly disputed by a royal expert.

In his book, Harry alleged that senior royals avoided physical displays of affection, recalling that his father did not hug him following the tragic death of Princess Diana. "No hugs, no kisses, no pats. Now and then, maybe a light touching of cheeks—on special occasions," Harry wrote.

However, royal biographer Robert Jobson refuted these claims, stating that King Charles is known for his warm and tactile nature. “He’s always been a good hugger,” Jobson told The Telegraph. “The people around the Royal Family can be strict, but the royals themselves are fairly relaxed. Charles has always been affectionate, with a twinkle in his eye.”

A source close to the King echoed these sentiments, describing him as "warm and affectionate" and unafraid to express these qualities publicly. "He’s a human and relatable person," the insider added.

Since stepping away from royal duties in 2020, Harry’s relationship with his family—particularly with King Charles and Prince William—has been strained, exacerbated by controversial remarks in his book and media appearances.

The challenge to Harry’s narrative underscores ongoing tensions between the Duke and his family, highlighting the growing distance between them.
