Duke of Sussex Reflects on Isolation and Loss in Emotional Letter to Bereaved Military Children
While the royal family stood together at the annual Festival of Remembrance and Remembrance Sunday at the Cenotaph, Prince Harry was notably absent. Instead, the Duke of Sussex issued a deeply personal letter to the charity Scotty’s Little Soldiers, which supports children who have lost a parent in the Armed Forces.
In his emotional note, Harry took a moment to acknowledge the significance of the day, writing, “I want to take a moment to reflect on the profound meaning of this occasion and what it represents for each of you.”
He continued, “This day is not only a time to honour the extraordinary sacrifices made by our service members but also to recognise the impact these sacrifices have on their families, especially those like yours.”
Harry, who has spoken openly about the loss of his own mother, empathised with the bereaved children, noting that losing a parent at a young age can feel “overwhelming and isolating.”
“In the midst of that heartache, we find strength in the love and memories left behind,” he added. “I’ve seen how communities like yours can offer deep comfort and healing.”
The Duke concluded his message with words of encouragement: “As you gather to remember and celebrate, know that you are part of a larger community that stands with you, ready to uplift and support you. Your resilience is a testament to the legacy of your loved ones, and I have every confidence in your ability to make them proud. All they want is for you to be happy.”
Harry’s touching letter highlights his ongoing commitment to supporting bereaved military families, even as he remains physically distant from the royal family’s unified commemoration in the UK.
