Duke slammed for 'mad' move as critics question security claims and royal protocol
Prince Harry has reportedly reignited tensions with Prince William following his unannounced visit to war-torn Ukraine—a move that has drawn sharp criticism from royal commentators and raised fresh questions about his stance on personal security.
On April 10, the Duke of Sussex travelled to Lviv to visit the Superhumans Center, where he met with medical staff, injured civilians, and children receiving life-altering treatment. His team described the visit as a show of support for those affected by the ongoing conflict, praising the resilience of those receiving care.
However, the trip has sparked controversy, particularly in light of Harry’s ongoing legal battle for police protection in the UK. Critics have pointed out the apparent contradiction in claiming he is unsafe in Britain while travelling to an active war zone.
“Part of his shtick is that it’s not safe for him to be in the UK,” said Daily Mail’s Richard Kay on Palace Confidential. “And then [he was seen] jetting off to a bona fide war zone in Ukraine. It’s slightly mad to suggest that he’s not safe in Britain but would be safe in a conflict zone.”
Kay also speculated that Prince William may be frustrated by his brother’s actions, especially as the Prince of Wales is known to follow official government guidance when it comes to overseas engagements.
Royal insiders believe Harry’s bold visit, which came before any similar appearance by William, may be seen as a calculated move—potentially widening the rift between the royal brothers at a time when tensions remain high.
