Experts claim Duchess is cashing in on royal ties despite past criticism
The British royal family is reportedly grappling with what insiders describe as their “biggest nightmare,” following Meghan Markle’s latest business and media moves that have reignited controversy.
As King Charles continues to undergo cancer treatment, tensions within the royal household have only deepened, with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex once again in the spotlight. Meghan's newly rebranded lifestyle line, As Ever—formerly known as American Riviera Orchard—has sparked backlash from royal commentators who accuse her of profiting from her royal connections.
Speaking to Fox News Digital, royal expert Duncan Larcombe stated, “What this represents is Meghan effectively cashing in on her fame… even using her children to boost her online presence and sell products.” He added, “This is exactly what the royals feared would happen.”
Larcombe argued that while the brand may prove successful, public perception in the UK remains critical. “She might have struck gold, but the overwhelming view here is more of her leveraging her royal past. She isn’t popular here—and launching a product line won’t likely change that.”
Broadcaster Helena Chard echoed these concerns, accusing Meghan of using her royal ties—and even occasional glimpses of her children—to build her brand and generate profit.
Since stepping back from royal duties in 2020, Meghan and Harry have pursued independent ventures in the United States, often citing media intrusion and lack of palace support as reasons for their departure. Her latest Netflix series, With Love, Meghan, debuted in March, featuring her passion for cooking and entertaining.
Royal analyst Hilary Fordwich added to the criticism, saying Meghan is “using the very royal family name and heritage she wanted to leave” to carve out her place as a lifestyle influencer—something senior royals had long hoped to avoid.
