Future king installed as Great Master of the Order of the Bath in milestone ceremony
Buckingham Palace has confirmed a major transition in royal duties as Prince William has officially been installed as Great Master of the Order of the Bath, taking over the role previously held by King Charles.
The ceremonial event, held at Westminster Abbey, marked the 300th anniversary of the Order’s founding. The statement noted that William was installed as Great Master and joined by five new Knights Grand Cross, who took their oaths during the event steeped in royal tradition.
Established by King George I in 1725, the Order of the Bath draws from older medieval customs, when knights would undergo a symbolic bath as part of a spiritual purification ritual before their appointment.
