Royal ceremony photos released amid Duke of Sussex’s Invictus Games announcement
Buckingham Palace has released striking images from a royal investiture as reports surface of the Duke of Sussex’s upcoming UK return.
King Charles III honoured several distinguished figures at Buckingham Palace this week, including rugby legend Sir Billy Boston, who became the first sportsman knighted for services to Rugby League.
The Palace shared photos on social media, writing: "Today at Buckingham Palace, Sir Billy Boston became the first sportsman to receive a knighthood for services to Rugby League." The King presented the 89-year-old former Wigan Warriors star with his insignia during the ceremony.
London Mayor Sadiq Khan was also formally knighted by the King in recognition of his political and public service. Having secured a historic third term in May 2024, Khan described the moment as "truly humbling" and pledged to continue working for "a fairer, safer, greener and more prosperous London."
The Palace’s post coincided with fresh updates from Harry’s team, who announced dates for the Invictus Games Birmingham 2027. The Games will open on 10 July and close on 17 July 2027, confirming Harry’s return to the UK for the event amid ongoing tensions with the royal family.
