King Charles Makes Key Decision on Buckingham Palace Ahead of Trump Visit

Monarch selects Windsor Castle as venue for pivotal US State Visit

King Charles has chosen Windsor Castle, not Buckingham Palace, as the venue for hosting US President Donald Trump during his upcoming State Visit to the United Kingdom.

The visit, set for September, comes after the King’s recent diplomatic engagement in Canada amid mounting geopolitical tensions.

Though Trump has approved the venue, the choice to move away from Buckingham Palace was both practical and symbolic, according to property expert Terry Fisher.

“Buckingham Palace might be the more famous royal address, but Windsor Castle is arguably more personal — it’s where the late Queen Elizabeth II spent her final years and where King Charles III hosted his first State Visit,” Fisher told GB News.

Ongoing “extensive renovations” at Buckingham Palace also made Windsor the preferred option. The castle has increasingly served as the “backdrop for key royal events,” outpacing other alternatives such as Balmoral and Dumfries House, which were initially considered in February.

“Windsor is the true home, while Buckingham is the office,” Fisher added, noting that the castle represents British heritage as a “living, breathing symbol of the monarchy’s endurance and tradition” across 40 reigns.

The King had extended a personal invitation to Trump in February for what will be an unprecedented second State Visit.

However, political tensions quickly followed when Ukrainian President Zelenskyy and Trump became embroiled in a public dispute. Since then, King Charles has reportedly been using his influence to encourage diplomatic calm, particularly within the European bloc.
