Podcast comment seen as subtle swipe at royals as Harry seeks to reconnect with King Charles
Meghan Markle may have reignited tensions with the royal family just as Prince Harry attempts to rebuild bridges with his father, King Charles.
The Duchess of Sussex recently appeared on the podcast Aspire with Emma Grede, where she touched on topics ranging from her lifestyle brand As Ever to her public image. When asked about reshaping the narrative around her life, Meghan responded, “Yes, I’ll ask people to tell the truth,” adding pointedly, “A lie can’t live forever. Eight years is a long time, but not forever.”
Royal commentator Lee Cohen interpreted the remark as a veiled criticism of the royal family, suggesting Meghan’s “bitterness” remains despite public claims of moving on. He argued that such comments only “fuel the feud” and keep Meghan in the spotlight.
Cohen added that Meghan’s continued references to her time within the royal institution suggest a reliance on that association to maintain public interest.
The timing of the remarks is notable, as they follow reports that Prince Harry is planning to invite the royal family—including King Charles—to the 2027 Invictus Games in Birmingham.
While Harry appears to be working towards reconciliation, Meghan’s latest statements may complicate those efforts—casting doubt over whether both parties are truly aligned in their approach to healing the rift.
